I work at a day spa, hair salon. We are asked to write thank you's to the clients after they come in for massage. This client (female) only comes to see me twice a month for a 30 min. massage. When I write the thank you, I'm polite and thank them for giving me the opportunity to be of service, and I'm glad they are enjoying the benefits of massage.
I did send my client a birthday post-card and on it was my gift....$20 off the next massage. Well, when the client last came in, they produced ALL the notes I had ever written to them! I was a little taken aback by this. I do realize that the notes can be the only source of kindness they get. Would you think this is within the norms of natural behavior? Should I be a little worried? Please let me know what you think. on a side note, at the end of the last massage, the client usually says they are feeling better, this last time, there was a sigh, and a fine! Hmmmm.....
What have you done in these situations? What advice would you offer for the next time? Just as an FYI...I am a female therapist.

...How is your Certificate worded?
Do you have, at the bottom,:
"Only one Certificate valid at a time."
"Expires: 12/31/09" (Or some other date)
"This Certificate has no cash value."
Treat the Client in a very professional manner; very much by the book, no additional friendliness. Keep the same policy with your notes & cards. Keep the notes short and to the point. And keep your role with the day spa above reproach. That is how I would do it.
