HealthShoppr is a company dedicated to helping consumers shop for healthcare. We believe that healthcare choices revolve around cost, quality, and service—terms that everybody understands. Although we were founded by a physician, we believe that individuals should be in control of their health—our goal is to help those individuals find providers with the health services and products that best meet their needs.
We believe in the power of marketplaces to transform care.
HealthShoppr creates a marketplace where consumers can “shop” for healthcare providers by identifying special services, hours available, methods of communication, approach to care, and many other factors that are made transparent and searchable. We believe you, the consumer, will reward those providers that provide the set of services you most want by voting with your feet and telling your friends about them.
We believe that healthcare professionals should spend their time with people, not paperwork
Hard working health providers should be rewarded for providing good service and service options that delight customers. We created this business to remove insurance hassles, micromanagement, and paperwork—allowing providers to spend more time with their customers and waste less time on unnecessary administrative work. We also think that you, the consumer, are willing to pay for better care and we have built HealthShoppr so that you can reward providers who take the time and effort to provide a higher level of quality and service.

The current approach to healthcare is disconnected, confusing, and expensive. In addition, we believe that the priorities for care are misplaced. Children and adults both love to play and be active...artificial barriers have made that harder to engage over time. Health Shoppr is focused on building a world where being healthy is convenient, understandable, and happens everyday through simple choices that reflect personal realities...we look forward to working with you to make that world happen and create a more active, healthy society.
Why we were created
Vijay Goel, M.D., the founder of Health Shoppr, was originally committed to a career in pediatrics. His goal was to create a medical practice that kept people from ever becoming sick...with a focus on diet, exercise, and strong relationships. As he finished medical school, he realized that not only was it impossible for him to make a living with this type of practice, but that the system was horribly broken.
The last straw was an encounter with a 5 year old girl getting her tonsils removed...because she was 110 pounds and had no other room in her throat to breathe. The surgeon was focused on the success of the operation. Vijay wanted to know how the child, at 5, weighed more than many adult women. He found that the parents, first generation immigrants, thought that soda was better for the child than water. This was illuminating (and depressing)-- the current focus on technology and procedures wouldn't address fundamental issues around diet, exercise, and health literacy.
After several years with McKinsey & Co, working with the different stakeholders in the system (insurance, hospitals, pharma/device, non-profit, employers), Vijay realized that the existing players had little incentive to invest in the long-term health of individuals in society, and that many of the existing systems were put in place to make things harder to access-- it saved the companies money.
They didn't understand the power of the consumer to make better choices...changes that had transformed and democratized travel, news, and retail commerce. Vijay started Health Shoppr with the belief that the same technology can revolutionize the way society thinks about and interacts with the health system and make "personalized" medicine (and wellness) a reality.
